UTS Has Hit A New Low - They Are Going To Charge A Subscription Fee To Telefasil Customers PDF Print E-mail

You know, I was very busy yesterday so it didn't really hit me at the time but OH CRAP, UTS IS GOING TO CHARGE TELEFASIL CUSTOMERS A MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FEE!! The more I think about it, the more I want to move to a remote island in the Pacific and live off of fruits and fish.

Did it sink in yet? Has your mind fully wrapped around how twisted and wrong this is? They are going to make Telefasil customers pay 25 guilders a month as a "subscription fee".  These are the same people that took Telefasil because you know, IT DOES NOT HAVE SUBSCRIPTION FEES.

I really think we can call this UTS' official low point. We've put up with outrageous prices (330 guilders for ADSL!!!), we've put up with clueless customer service, we've put up with 3G management that makes no sense...but mercy, charging customers a monthly fee for a pre-paid service might actually be a crime. I feel like calling the police and registering a complaint because I AM GOING TO GET ROBBED EVERY SINGLE MONTH STARTING DECEMBER.

The local Consumer Affairs department is up in arms, as is Charles Cooper and I can't blame them. If you read the articles in the Amigoe and the Antilliaans Dagblad, you'll want to assault someone. You'll be so angry that you'll go outside and punch a random stranger in the ribs.

But hey, Telefasil clients aren't the only ones who are getting screwed over. People who have a "post-paid" land line will also get an increase in subscription fees as they'll also pay 25 guilders now instead of 18. The difference is that they'll get 20 "free" minutes a month for their 7 guilders of extra cost while the pre-paid clients will just get kicked in the face all day long.

You might say that 25 guilders a month is not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things and if you do, you'd definitely be right. I will say it myself. 25 guilders is not a lot of cash. But that's the thing, it's not about the amount of money, it's about a deal that was made. It's about offering a pre-paid service with no strings attached, roping people in, and then screwing them over because your company has horrible management and would be better off if it was run by dead pigeons.

We took Telefasil 7 or 8 years ago because one month we received a phone bill that surpassed 1000 guilders. We were stumped because this was not possible and after doing some research, the phone records did not match up. For example, calls were made to numbers that we had never seen on hours that no one was at home. We complained that we were literally being robbed but it didn't matter. We paid the bill and switched to Telefasil to have control over the calling. With a pre-paid system, things like that cannot happen. We took Telefasil just to be in control of things. A lot of people took Telefasil however because it's what they can afford...

For us the 25 guilders won't matter much. We'll send 25 guilders less to the savings account every month or make 1 less trip a month to McDonalds... but for many people, that 25 guilders will sorely be missed and that is very, very sad and also very, very cruel.

Right now I'm actually ashamed of being a UTS customer but when you have a monopoly, you can screw people 9 times 'till Sunday and laugh all the way to the bank.

Excuse me while I go wrestle that porcupine again....

Rebel, and just use your cell phone. That's what I do.

I do use my cellphone a lot and that would be technically be the ideal solution but sadly, I need my ADSL, especially for work purposes.

I'm not even using my telefasil phone, it's just sitting there because i need it for the adsl line. I have a two year contract for 103,95 (incl) per month. I still have 1 year left, so in my second year I suddenly have to pay 130,20 (incl) a month? What's the consumentenbond doing?

I have no idea what's being done. There was a lot of outrage initially by the consumentenbond but things are very quiet right now.

It's horrible and it still pisses me off a whole lot.

We have a holiday house on the island. Telefasil enabled the guests to load the phone themselves. We will now probably disconnect it. We are not going to pay for the whole year...

I really wonder how many people gave up their Telefasil phones or how many are going to throughout the coming months...
